Canada’s regulations are governed by Health Canada under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA).
Flammability (Children’s Sleepwear Regulations):
Canada differentiates between Loose-fitting and Tight-fitting sleepwear.
Loose-fitting (nightgowns, loose PJs): Must be made of “slower-burning” fabrics (polyester/nylon) or meet strict “flame-spread” times.
Tight-fitting (sleepers/polo PJs): Can be 100% Organic Cotton but must meet specific “dimensional requirements” (snug fit) to reduce the risk of catching fire.
Textile Labelling Act:
Bilingual Labels: All labels must be in both English and French.
Dealer Identification: Labels must show a “CA Number” (a specific Canadian identification number) or the brand’s full name and address in Canada.
Chemical Restrictions:
Strict limits on Lead, Phthalates, and Formaldehyde. You should state that your baby clothes are tested according to the CCPSA heavy metal guidelines.
Our Merchandising and Quality Teams work with Internationally Accredited Third-Party Agencies like SGS, Intertek, BV, URS etc. in coordinating with them through the testing process, sharing samples for testing and gathering results to share with customers and make the overall process seamless.
